AMMO TO STAY HEALTHYBeing a full time musician takes it's toll on your health unless you take good care of yourself. Here are some organizations and websites that offer resources and support for maintaining your good health. Healthy Organizations & WebsitesCari Cole is an indie artist in my book but is also a voice teacher. Her website has a wealth of resources for taking care of your most delicate instrument - your voice! Check out her music when you visit. http://www.caricolevoicestudios.com H.E.A.R. is a nonprofit organization that offers resources for protecting your ears. Co-founder Kathy Peck says custom musician earplugs (ER 9, ER15 or ER 25) (around $150) offer the best protection. Made from an impression of your ear canal, they're comfortable to wear. ER hi-fi earplugs (ready fit - around $20) reduces decibel levels too. Industrial foam earplugs (cheap) decrease sounds, but muffle speech and music. Sorry, but Peck advises that cotton and toilet paper won't help. http://www.hearnet.com Kathryn and Gilbert Miller Health Care Institute for Performing Artists is a healthcare facility that is custom-designed for performing-arts medicine. http://www.millerinstitute.org Musicians and Injuries has resources for treating and preventing common injuries, a directory of physicians and good articles. http://eeshop.unl.edu/music.html The Performing Arts Medicine Association has physicians and others dedicated to improving the health care of performing artists. http://www.artsmed.org International Health ResourcesThe International Arts-Medicine Association is non-profit networking / education organization and give doctor references. http://members.aol.com/iamaorg Canadian Network for Health in the Arts (CNHA) posts research and health services for performing artists. http://web.idirect.com/~cnha The British Performing Arts Medicine Trust is a special charity dealing with performing arts medicine. http://www.BPAMT.co.uk Art, Health & Medicine is funded by the Commonwealth Government through the Australia Council. http://www.central.com.au/artmed Arts Medicine Aotearoa/NZ has healthcare resources for the arts in New Zealand. http://www.converge.org.nz/amanz Music Medicine of Germany http://www.arts-medicine.org German Association on Physiologie of Music and Performing Arts Medicine http://www.dgfmm.org
